Lemur Music Gallery of Fine Instruments - Björn Stoll Instruments
Although Björn Stoll just recently gained his master luthier status and opened his own shop, he comes from a long line of bass makers in the Musikwinkle area of Germany. His father worked with Rubner during their golden era. Stoll's basses have a powerful but tender sound, owing to the strong yet flexible tops. They are meticulously antiqued and have a beautiful hand-applied varnish. Stoll is where tradition and great value come together.

Bass makers often grapple with presenting a design that combines lots of air volume and playabilty. Despite the sheer size of this instrument, it is one of the easiest to get around on in the entire shop. Look at the rear view to see how the Eb neck is perched high upon very sloping shoulders. This allows easy access to the upper-most registers. In addition to having a generous upper bout and colossal lower bout, both the top and the back of the instrument are very highly vaulted. We had to custom turn an extra-long sound post to fit into this bass! Its dark, responsive, and very even; must be played to be believed.

Specifications:
  • Upper bout width: 19 1/2"
  • Middle bout width: 15 1/2"
  • Lower bout width: 29"
  • Rib depth (inc. top & back): 9 1/8"
  • Playing string length: 41 1/4"
